Chapter 11 Responses
When I think of traditional audio media, I think of the talking book. I know that many classrooms in my school district back home used the cassette tapes and had groups listen to the books on tape. Especially for children with disabilities this can be very helpful because many may have trouble reading or not be able to read the book at all. As for the digital audio media I would choose MP3's. They are easy to access and can be downloaded to various devices for different purposes. I would use MP# in my special education classroom for children who need to listen to things such as relaxing music or music to help them focus. All of this could be done with MP3 player. When I look into the traditional visual technology on the traditional side I would choose to use a cablecast video because this would allow kids to make short videos such as morning announcements and then allow the whole school to view them through the schools cable channel. This would allow kids to make short videos and explore the ways of television and get a glimpse of what happens each day when we are at home watching tv. However, in the new technology age I would choose to use DVDs within my classroom. There are hundreds of educational films that can help kids learn and can be incorporated into lessons in the classroom. I remember in one of the classrooms I worked in they had kids watching movies on the screen that helped them learn various words by making them into the actual object that they were. An example would be an ear of corn and the ear f corn the shape of it was made by spelling corn. The DVD set is called Words world and I would definitely think about using this within my classroom.
Chapter 6 Reponses
After reading the chapter, I feel as though I would incorporate more technology than not into my classroom. I feel this way because it seems like in todays society technology is being used everywhere and it has a lot of benefits to helping within the classroom. Things such as scanners or digital cameras can be a great way to allow kids to take pictures and see their images end up on the computer screen. I plan to be a Special Education teacher so these things can also be useful inside a special ed. classroom. Items such as the smart board can allow the teacher and children to interact while learning and especially with kids that have special needs they can see their work right on the screen and interact with it. With technology becoming such a major part of our everyday lives I don't see why I wouldn't choose to use technology in the classroom.
